You don't want to disrupt your child's education midway through
a vital stage, so remember that you are committing yourself to paying
fees for perhaps several years. There are ways of spreading the
financial burden over longer periods, whether or not you have been
able to plan ahead.
The secret of paying school fees is to plan early. Money invested
when your child is a baby can provide tax-free sums. Even as little
as five years before your child is due to go to school, there are
investments which can help to reduce the financial burden.
Lump sum and regular savings plans are available for parents wishing
to fund future school fees.
How much?
Basic fees vary widely. They depend on whether schools are educating younger or older children, day or boarding and where they are situated. The following list contains the type of school and the approximate fee range per term as at 2004/05; most schools increase them once a year. Many day schools include lunch in basic fees.
